Jogging is for sissies!

What is jogging anyway, I read somewhere that is “running slower than 6mph” I would rather say “moving slower than 6mph”! And don’t get me wrong, I mean that is fine, is good, is great…. if you are 100 years old and you left your wheelchair at home!

For me that is as demanding as sitting on my couch watching a film and eating popcorn ALL in the same time! For a Kenyan runner probably I’ll have to throw in doing all that at 8000 m altitude!!!

So I like pushing myself when I run, until it hurts, until my lungs get their own personality and start talking to me, hey crazy girl, we’re breaking up with you now!

And I am not saying this because I am SO good at running, but because, I’ve learnt I won’t achieve things if I won’t push myself, when I run, or when I do anything in life!

What am I trying to say here is that is annoying me tremendously when I hear people talking about how hard they train, and don’t see results, when all they do is jog on a treadmill once a week, or people saying that success is catchy, they seem to have this notion in their mind that success is easy because they see so many successful people ( at least on the media) Or worse, they hear stories about people who became successful through chance, or luck, or simply by being in the right place at the right time. Well, I have news for you folks, most of us are NOT in the right place at the right time, and we have to find our way to success through pushing ourselves, and working hard! And then luck will come as well, I am sure!
I am not looking for success through running, I am only doing this purely as a hobby and for myself, but I am not afraid to push it, not to win competitions, not to win races, (even though this year I promised myself I’ll finally run in front of that tiny Japanese lady that always comes first) ….. but I do it to “conquer” myself!!!

And come on, don’t get me wrong jogging is good for… warming up, is good if you want to walk your dog, is good if you are Kim Kardashian and you called the paparazzi to take pictures! But it won’t give you the body and strength of … Usain Bolt!!! Neither the charm I think!!!

But if you are a jogger and my title upset you….. I have something for you, here you go, you can virtually kiss… sorry I meant kick my ass:

I have to admit, right now a jog is more my speed. However the goal is to run a 5 or 10 km charity run in late May. However I’ll stop by here looking for tips on running. :)

The body doesn’t age because we tell it to.. The body ages or seems to because you believe in age.. What you continue to do in everyday activity is proof of this. Your cells never age or stop doing what they do so what goes on inside bring outside. :) Wonderful post it was clever and inspiring!

    • H! February 16, 2013 at 10:32 am #

      Totally agree! Thank you!:)

  5. Tabi Leigh February 15, 2013 at 12:19 am #

I hate it when in Track we have to stay together and the people you are assigned to be with decide to jog . its like if you dont want to run LEAVE THE TEAM!!

  6. louisjbianco February 15, 2013 at 3:09 am #

Jogging (keeping your heartrate in the target fat burning zone for 20/45 min burns fat and spares muscle and joints. If you want to burn your lungs out buy the altitude training mask and run the stairs! Less joint pounding, crazy burn, puddle of sweat!! You will also build your legs and tone your butt!

Hi H, thank you for stopping by my blog. I an not a runner but I am a jogger and really enjoy the exercise and time I get to spend with my pups. What is important is that we all find what it is that we can do to keep in great shape. Have a great evening.

    • H! February 16, 2013 at 10:29 am #

      You are absolutely right! :)

I’ve always said I’m a runner not a jogger and through hard work had my fastest times yet at 46 years old. Skinny girls like you don’t create much of a draft. So there’s no good reason to run behind them. :)

      Ha ha ha right!!! :)

    Actually not offended.

  13. starbucksbuzz February 16, 2013 at 10:59 pm #

Damn I wish my “run” would stay over 6mph! At my best (so far) I’ve only been able to top out at 6.5 for about a mile or so before I have to slow it down. (and at my best I was working out 4-5 days a week running, and cross training…) If I want to run any length of time I range from 4.5-5.5. Fail. Of course having short legs doesn’t help either. Oh well. :P

Running’s my favorite sport. 20 years & counting regularly, and track in school…Best effin sport there is…well, besides skiing and surfing and sailing and…;)

Looking at you, I can tell ;)

  15. AngelEstep February 17, 2013 at 8:55 pm #

LOL Love the attitude! I DO tend to jog, but only because I’m still VERY new at running and I pretty much suck at it and just can’t actually go that fast yet. But it’s progressive… I don’t plan to STAY that way forever! Here’s to progress!

    • H! February 18, 2013 at 5:33 pm #

;) Here’s to progress!!! That’s the idea! Thank you!

      I will :) …thank you

  17. bgrunning February 18, 2013 at 1:26 am #

I was so excited today, I ran 8 miles. My longest run ever. But your post took off a little of my glow, and that’s not your fault. It’s my own. I am a very heavy runner, I have lost 50 pounds in 4 months, but I have another hundred to go. So I guess what made me feel like a real runner today was really just a jog. Maybe someday I will be a real runner, maybe I won’t, but for now I’ll just keep trying. A little empathy goes a long way for those of us trying so very hard to transform ourselves.

    • H! February 18, 2013 at 5:36 pm #

It was a metaphor, you are a runner, in your own terms, because you try and push yourself…. and I am sure if you keep on going your speed will go up, and the pounds down!!! Keep at it and happy runs!!! :)

      • bgrunning February 18, 2013 at 5:57 pm #

It’s completely ok for what I always call “real runners” to see my slow shuffle and think why bother. My running mentor, who has run Boston three times and accomplished everything under the sun she ever hoped to as far as running goes often speed walks I am so slow. I wasn’t upset, I just hated it took a tiny glow off such a huge victory. I shouldn’t have commented, it was a first, a knee jerk reaction. You have a lovely blog and I hope to one day inspire others as I am sure you do.

      • H! February 18, 2013 at 6:06 pm #

Ahh you know what, in your fight your “little” victory means much more than my 42/10k min run, and I am not here to point out to people like you at all, I am glad you did comment, and I really hope you will continue to run, jog, whatever, and have this victories, until you look back and say….. jogging IS for sissies!!! And by the way the whole post was a bit of a joke, not really meant to put anyone down! You are a lovely person, and I can really hope you keep at it, and be happy and enjoy! All the best to you!

  18. seldombites February 18, 2013 at 2:08 am #

I agree running is probably better and definitely harder than jogging. However, I do praise joggers who used to be completely sedentary couch potatoes. Jogging for those people is as hard as running is for a fit person.

    • beeseeker February 20, 2013 at 9:49 am #

      Amen to that!

      • H! February 20, 2013 at 5:30 pm #

    Hi.
Thanks for liking my post at Kingspeech. There were a few things that struck home as I was reading your post. The first thing was when you said,

    I’ve learnt I won’t achieve
things if I won’t push myself, when
I run, or when I do anything in life!

That is so true and that is the right attitude to have. The last thing I got was when you said, you are running to conquer yourself!

Oh and you are funny like heck!!!!

    Great post…

    Rolain

I can’t believe I am defending joggers, but you are being a little harsh. Intensity doesn’t necessarily have to be defined by speed. If you are 5’2 and weigh over 200 lbs, then 6 MPH is damn good! That person could very well be near sprinting. In fact, that person may be working harder than you in terms of energy demand and heart rate. You running 7.5 miles per hour is probably an aerobic activity, while the fat person who is running 5-6 mph maybe be hitting the anaerobic energy zone which is way harder than your workout. :) Just food for thought.

P.S. jogging is actually way harder on your body than running and walking in terms of mechanics. Jogging involves a lot of up and down motion which is harder on the joints than running and walking.

    • H! February 19, 2013 at 5:16 pm #

I agree with you. It was more like a metaphor for pushing yourself and not actually advise for anyone!!! ;) Thanks for your comment!

  22. beeseeker February 20, 2013 at 9:48 am #

Good luck, whether you’re runnin’, joggin’ or walkin’ :-)

Unless you are independently wealthy, you compete to acquire a living. Check!
If you don’t push yourself, everybody else will remain ahead of you. Check!
If you are independently wealthy, you compete to retain your wealth…with the government. Check!

    Truer words were never spoke!

  26. Honeydidyouseethat? February 23, 2013 at 5:32 am #

I wanted to start an online company called, “Moveyourass.com” But someone already had it. They better not be joggers! :) Thanks for dropping by and liking “Honey” again.

  30. Darren Swancott February 24, 2013 at 4:12 pm #

    Made me chuckle.

I think I must be walking to fast if thats what constitutes a jog! But then saying that for people who are just starting out/making lifestyle changes etc then whatever you can do is better than not doing anything. Big Kudos to the people on here who have said they are just starting out! Keep it going!

Success is harder to measure than failure! Failure is quiting or giving up. Succes is a second off your personal best, or just not hurting like hell the next day.

    • H! February 25, 2013 at 3:09 pm #

Nobody should have taken this literally… it was meant as a metaphorical slap!!!:) Of course to do something about it is better than nothing!;)

  31. rose2852 February 24, 2013 at 9:18 pm #

Yep, I’ve seen people running on TV and in pictures but it just can’t compete with having a curry instead. Think i’ll just keep walking..

    • H! February 26, 2013 at 5:56 pm #

Ha ha ha curry is even better after running! :) Keep walking, make sure you walk in the right direction ;)

Thanks for the like, much appreciated. Great blog you got here H! and kudos on the post, even if it did slightly strain the relationship between my body and mind..

    • H! March 1, 2013 at 5:14 pm #

Ha ha ha I’m sure your mind will be just fine, as well your body… thank you! :)

  36. Greta Herron March 1, 2013 at 6:20 pm #

LOL! I blew out my knees one summer performing Busch Garden theme park, so jogging and running are not my thing. Whenever I get the urge, I drag my Aeroglider machine away from the wall and use it for 15 minutes. I feel I should pat myself on the back for my efforts, since I know most exercise machines are used for hanging clothes….

    • H! March 1, 2013 at 6:32 pm #

Ha ha ha you are funny and that means a lot! :)

  37. LovesToFly March 2, 2013 at 6:25 pm #

Heh! I am most definitely a runner…I probably run an average of 6 miles and hour…depending on how far I am running! I am right around the 10 minute mile mark. But, even when I was slower, I still considered myself a runner. Because as a someone who was 35 years old, had 2 kids, and had been overweight and sedentary for most of my adult life…whatever “running” I did was hard work, and too much an accomplishment for me to minimize it and call it “Jogging”. Not that there is anything wrong with Jogging..there isn’t…bit I consider Jogging recreational and comfortable, and what I did (and do…though it has been a while, but I will be back at it soon) is neither!

  38. teetotalfor2 March 3, 2013 at 1:33 pm #

haha love this – it’s so true!

    • H! March 3, 2013 at 5:54 pm #

  39. equisway March 9, 2013 at 3:09 pm #

Last Sunday, I ran a 10K race (6.21 miles) in 59:22 (barely made your standard).
Hey you, Joggers, keep up you slow bunch!

    • H! March 9, 2013 at 7:02 pm #

      :) you’re getting there!!! ;)

  40. fattymustrun March 9, 2013 at 7:31 pm #

Unfortunately I fall into the jogging category, apart from when I accidentally set the treadmill to fast or am running uncontrollably downhill :-)

  41. 1WriteWay March 10, 2013 at 8:15 pm #

Hi, thanks for coming by my blog and liking one of my posts. I enjoyed this post a lot. I would argue that not everyone is cut out (physiologically) to be a runner, regardless of their age. I have never been able to run for longer than a 20-minute stretch (and even then it was probably 5 miles an hour which I guess in your book is not running :) ) Even as a kid I couldn’t run, which is embarrassing to admit. Yet, I appreciate, admire (and envy) your dedication to work at what you enjoy doing and to succeed. I have friends who run just because they love to run. They join marathons because they enjoy challenging themselves. If they win anything, it’s icing. Keep running and keep writing!

  42. suellfamily March 11, 2013 at 11:47 pm #

Thanks for stopping by my blog!…I love to run for fun…enjoyed this post!

  43. eric rutin March 14, 2013 at 12:51 pm #

Love it! I am all about running being totally inclusive but….

  44. Kirstin Stokes Smith March 14, 2013 at 5:46 pm #

LOL :D I’ll confess that I SAY I run…but I’m probably jogging. :P Still, I can get away with using the Running Lane at the track (faster than Jogging Lane!). Yup, I’m one of those runners too — I don’t like running outside. (Please refer to H!’s memorable last pic if this outrages you!)

    • H! March 14, 2013 at 9:37 pm #

Ha ha ha …more kicks now…. ok, ok I sacrifice!!! :)

  45. garyzourikian March 15, 2013 at 4:05 pm #

Thanks for your blog! :-) i’m a jogger myself… I think we should push ourselves in any areas of our life and this is why your post caught my eye! It is not about winning but reaching a new goal and strive for more.
    Keep it up!!

  46. redjim99 March 17, 2013 at 8:43 am #

I think I’ll go climb a mountain instead. I hate running, they made me do it for years in the Air Force. Now, only in an emergency.

    Jim

    • H! March 17, 2013 at 10:01 am #

Ha ha ha, fair enough but it’s all about what mountain you choose!

  47. Jane Eve Dixon March 18, 2013 at 10:35 am #

So here’s the thing – all my life I’ve been saying I’m not competitive and that for me, it’s all about achieving your absolute best at whatever you are doing. I do actually feel that but no-one believes me really – specially when I do well and am delighted! Heh! course I am –
I’ve usually bust a gut to get there.

Love your Post and to a like minded soul –
Keep the spirit – I know you will!
Make your Luck – I know you’ll get it!
And have lots of fun ;D

    • H! March 18, 2013 at 5:13 pm #

Thank you, all the best to you too, and lots of fun! :)

  48. mrpanchito March 30, 2013 at 3:37 pm #

Interesting, albeit funny take on jogging hahaa. Truth be told, I kind of feel the same way towards hiking. Why walk, when I can run and get to my objective quicker :-) .

  49. Lady ID April 8, 2013 at 3:46 pm #

I am a runner but by your definition I’m a jogger. I train at my pace and train to get faster, and definitely train for races. All I know is my lungs tell me I’m running :)

  50. H! February 27, 2013 at 6:14 pm #
